The Stolen Voice Ensemble

Wesley Hicks is an experimental musician and artist. He builds experimental acoustic instruments that work in unconventional ways. His compositions and artwork often deal with the creation of synthetic nature. He has made scores that recreate the sound of bird calls, walking in the woods, and the sound of a flowing river. Many of the instruments he builds function as parts of large scale ensembles. These ensembles include the River Rock Ensemble (150+ instruments), the Microtonal Ocarina Ensemble: Stolen Voice (25+ instruments), and the Juicerinas (100+ instruments) which he built in collaboration with artist Michael Parker. Performances with these ensembles often includes interaction with the public and interaction with the architecture of public institutions. Notable performances have happened at the Getty Center, Hammer Museum, Palm Springs Art Museum, and CalArts.
